Ingredients

1 (12-pack) Sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained, optional for added flavor)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Cut the Sweet Hawaiian rolls into quarters and evenly distribute them in the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple evenly over the rolls.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter until fully combined.

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls, making sure all pieces are soaked. Gently press down with a spatula to ensure even absorption.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it sit for 20-30 minutes at room temperature for the rolls to absorb the custard.

Remove the foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar. Slice into squares and serve warm with maple syrup.
