The origins of burritos can be traced back to Mexico, where they were initially created as a convenient way to transport food. The term "burrito," which means "little donkey" in Spanish, is believed to have stemmed from the way the tortilla wraps around the fillings, resembling a donkey's burden. Over time, burritos have evolved and adapted, incorporating various ingredients and techniques that reflect regional flavors and preferences. From the classic bean and cheese burrito to the more adventurous breakfast burrito filled with eggs, bacon, and salsa, there is a burrito for everyone.

Ingredients

1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 cups frozen French fries

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

4 large flour tortillas

1/2 cup sour cream

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

1 jalapeño, sliced (optional)

Hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the flank steak slices and coat well. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Cook the Fries: While the steak marinates, prepare the French fries according to package instructions until crispy.

Cook the Steak: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the marinated steak slices for about 4-5 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.

Assemble the Burritos: Lay one large flour tortilla on a clean surface. Add a generous amount of fries down the center, followed by a portion of the cooked steak, and sprinkle with both cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Add some sour cream, chopped cilantro, and jalapeño slices, if using.

Roll the Burrito: Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll from the bottom up tightly. Repeat for the remaining tortillas and filling.

Heat the Burritos: Place rolled burritos seam-side down in the skillet and cook on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy.

Serve: Slice in half and drizzle with hot sauce if desired. Enjoy your indulgent Steak & Cheese Dirty Fry Burritos!
