Ingredients
  

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 package (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup Nutella or your favorite chocolate spread

1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts (optional)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions
 

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.

    In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

      Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

        Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

          Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into four equal portions.

            Roll out each portion into a circle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread Nutella evenly on the first circle, sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts (if using), and place the second circle on top. Repeat with the third and fourth circles.

              Once stacked, place a glass or a round cutter in the center of the dough. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 16 equal sections, starting from the edge towards the center, but stopping at the glass/cutter.

                Carefully twist each section away from the center to create star-like points.

                  Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the star bread on a lined baking sheet. Whisk an egg and brush it over the top of the bread for a golden finish.

                    Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.

                      Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
