Ingredients

For the Soft Pretzels:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

2 teaspoons salt

½ cup baking soda (for boiling)

Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

For the Cheese Dip:

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy.

      Make the Pretzel Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually stir in the yeast mixture until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

          Let it Rise:

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

              Shape the Pretzels:

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Once the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist it into a pretzel shape.

                  Boil the Pretzels:

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add ½ cup of baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

                      Bake the Pretzels:

Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.

                          Prepare the Cheese Dip:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Add the cheeses, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the cheese has melted and the mixture is smooth.

                              Serve:

Serve the warm pretzels with the cheesy dip on the side. Enjoy your delicious, homemade soft pretzels with cheesy goodness!
