Understanding the origins of trifles can enhance our appreciation for this dessert. Trifles have a long-standing history that dates back to the 16th century in England, evolving through time to become the layered dessert we know today. Originally, trifles were crafted from a mix of fruits, sweetened cream, and sometimes, sponge cake. The name "trifle" itself derives from the Middle English word "trufle," which referred to something of little consequence—a light, simple dessert meant to be enjoyed after a meal.

Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, sliced

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1 cup powdered sugar

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup vanilla pudding mix

2 cups milk

1/2 cup granola

1/4 cup chopped peanuts (for garnish)

1/4 cup chocolate shavings (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Vanilla Pudding: In a mixing bowl, combine the vanilla pudding mix with milk. Whisk until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Set aside.

Make the Peanut Butter Whipped Cream: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined and creamy.

Layer the Trifle: In a large glass or individual trifle dishes, begin layering the ingredients. Start with a layer of sliced bananas, followed by a layer of vanilla pudding, then a layer of the peanut butter whipped cream.

Add Granola: Sprinkle a layer of granola over the peanut butter whipped cream for added crunch.

Repeat the Layers: Continue layering the bananas, vanilla pudding, peanut butter whipped cream, and granola until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of peanut butter whipped cream on top.

Garnish: For the final touch, sprinkle chopped peanuts and chocolate shavings on top of the whipped cream layer.

Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serve: Once chilled, serve immediately and enjoy the delightful layers of flavors!
