Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch thick slices

4 large eggs

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Fresh berries and mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.

Assemble the Bread: Arrange the slices of brioche/challah in the prepared baking dish, slightly overlapping them.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Pour Custard Over Bread: Evenly pour the custard mixture over the arranged bread, making sure all slices are soaked. You can gently press the bread down to ensure it absorbs the mixture.

Cover and Refrigerate: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or at least for 4 hours) to let the bread soak up the custard.

Preheat Oven: The next day, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the soaked bread. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until the top is golden brown and custard is set.

Create the Crème Brûlée Effect: For that crispy top, use a kitchen torch to caramelize the brown sugar until it melts and forms a crunchy top. If you don’t have a torch, you can place the dish under a broiler for a few minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Slice into portions and serve warm, garnished with fresh berries and mint leaves if desired.

Enjoy! Dive into your decadent overnight crème brûlée French toast!
