Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche bread (12-16 slices)

4 large eggs

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup brown sugar (for topping)

1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for greasing)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Slice the brioche bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, overlapping the slices slightly.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the arranged bread. Ensure that all slices are well saturated. Gently press down any bread that isn't fully submerged.

Cover and Refrigerate: Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or at least for 4 hours) to let the bread soak up the custard.

Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the French Toast: Remove the plastic wrap and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the soaked bread. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly puffed.

Create the Crème Brûlée Top: For a more authentic crème brûlée finish, remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and then use a kitchen torch to caramelize the brown sugar topping until it forms a crispy layer. Alternatively, you can broil it in the oven for 1-2 minutes (watch closely to prevent burning).

Serve: Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This dish is delightful served warm with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar.
