Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1/4 cup water

Extra flour for dusting

Butter for brushing (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Whisk them together until well incorporated.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and the egg until combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or a rubber spatula until a shaggy dough begins to form.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.

Shape Buns: Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long oval to fit your hot dogs comfortably, about 6 inches in length.

Second Rise: Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spaced evenly apart. Cover them with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the buns rise.

Bake Buns: Once doubled in size, bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Cool and Serve: Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. If desired, brush with melted butter for extra flavor when serving.

Enjoy: Fill these fluffy buns with your favorite hot dogs and toppings!
