Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 tablespoon olive oil

3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)

1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Melted butter for brushing

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.

Add the olive oil and warm water to the dry mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms. If using garlic powder and Italian herbs, fold them in at this point.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.

Roll each piece into a rope about 12 inches long. To form a heart shape, create a loop with the rope, twist the ends together, and then bring them down to create the pointed bottom of the heart.

Place the shaped breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, brush them with beaten egg for a shiny finish and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Allow the breadsticks to rest for about 15-20 minutes, letting them puff up slightly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter for added flavor and richness.

Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dip!
