Ingredients

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon almond extract

Colored sugar and/or royal icing for decoration

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter and sugar together on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Egg and Extracts: Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture. Beat until well blended.

Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Chill the Dough: Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for enhanced flavor).

Roll Out the Dough: Once chilled, unwrap one disk of dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.

Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decorate: Once cooled, decorate your cookies with colored sugar, royal icing, or any other decorations you desire.

Enjoy: Serve and enjoy your festive cut-out sugar cookies with family and friends!
