Ingredients

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Fuji or Granny Smith recommended)

2 teaspoons lemon juice

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar, divided

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup milk

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.

In a small bowl, toss the diced apples with lemon juice and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, ¾ cup granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in the diced apples until evenly incorporated.

In a separate small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, remaining ¼ cup granulated sugar, and nutmeg to create the cinnamon-sugar filling.

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar filling over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and finish with the remaining cinnamon-sugar filling.

Using a knife or a skewer, gently swirl the batter to create a marbled effect.

Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the bread cools, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread before serving.
