3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Mix until well combined.

      Stir in the brown sugar, followed by the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well integrated.

        In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and flour.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

            Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts, if using, until evenly distributed in the batter.

              Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly with a spatula.

                Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

                  Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then use the parchment overhang to lift them out and cool completely on a wire rack.
